It has never been difficult for Nordic folk to work and settle in the UK BUT the Brexit vote has caused many in our community to feel insecure. The important fact is that your rights are unchanged until at least 31 December 2020.
If you’re an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, you and your family can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK. This is easy and free and the UK Government information page guides applicants through the process. As of 1st February, 2020 more than 3 million applications had been received.
If your application is successful, you’ll get either settled or pre-settled status. This status provides certainty about the future to millions of EU citizens and their families in the UK after Brexit. Most importantly, it will allow you to stay here after the UK leaves the EU, and to continue to access public funds and services.
After this scheme closes you will need to apply for a UK work visa under the points-based system that the UK Government is developing. You will need a job offer to apply but, at this early stage of development, it looks like an easy process. From our personal experience, easier than it was before Sweden joined the EU!
